Chirk AAA 4 Rhos Aelwyd 5(Pens)

JD Welsh Cup - 2nd Qual Round
Chirk AAA 2 Rhos Aelwyd 2
(Rhos Aelwyd win 3 - 2 on pens)
Rhos edged into the 1st round proper with penalty shoot out win over The Colliers
And it was former Chirk player and Aelwyd player manager Aled Parry who struck the winning penalty.
Aelwyd started strongly and had a couple of early opportunities with Chirk struggling to get a foothold. However the Colliers gained momentum and it was no surprise when former Wrexham defender Ryan Williams put the home side ahead on the half hour mark with a low drive from 20 yards.
Chirk were dealt a blow on 55 minutes when central defender Matty Williams was shown a second yellow and dismissed from the action.
But Chirk took it in their stride and increased their lead on the hour when Louie Middlehurst poked home from close range following a corner.
Rhos weren't petered and they came storming back into the game on 68 minutes with a superb effort from full back Dan Harrison. He picked the ball up just over the halfway line, strode confidently forward before unleashing an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to give Chirk keeper Callum Thurnham no chance.
Rhos had the ascendancy and pushed forward for the equaliser but Chirk did have a couple of late chances with Alistair Gibson going close on 2 occasions.
With minutes remaining Rhos grabbed the equaliser when Thurnham could only touch a long range shot onto the bar and Ryan Jenkins was on hand to tap in the equaliser.
So the game went to penalties where there was more drama.
Chirk scored their first 2 with Aelwyd missing theirs.
Only for Chirk to miss their next 2 and Aelwyd to score theirs!
Sudden death with Aelwyd keeping their nerve and Parry striking the conclusive penalty to send his team through.
An entertaining game in front of decent crowd.
Chirks man of the match was new signing Ryan Davies who had a fine debut game in Chirks midfield.
Many thanks to our 2 new stewards at the game Mike Fred Reilly & Gary Base Williams
