CHIRK GO OUT ON PENALTIES TO CUP HOLDERS TNS

JD Welsh Cup - Round 2
CHIRK AAA 1 TNS 1 (TNS win 4-2 on penalties)
Chirk put up a great show to stun their illustrious visitors and take the tie to penalties after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Chirk had their game plan, stuck to it and made it difficult for the cup holders to create any significant chances in the opening exchanges.
And when they did they found The Colliers defence in resolute form with Jake Ellison(sponsored by Mike Pryde)in fine form keeping McManus under close scrutiny all game.
Adam Wilson went close on 25 minutes and Chirk keeper Mark Richards (sponsored by Acorn branding & marketing) pulled off a great stop to deny ex Wrexham striker Adrian Cieslewicz after 34 minutes.
Chirk held firm and went in at half time all square.
The home fans went wild on 51 minutes when Ryan Davies (sponsored by OWO Plumbing & Heating) picked up a loose back pass and beat TNS keeper Connor Roberts with a decisive finish to put the home side ahead.
Dale Davies (sponsored by Joe’s Maintenance) almost put Chirk further ahead on the hour mark but was foiled by a last ditch tackle from Marriott.
TNS we’re rattled and Ryan Astles received a yellow card for pulling back a Chirk striker.
The away team missed a glorious chance to equalise when McManus fired a penalty over the bar on 66 minutes but they did get the leveller minutes later when Keston Davies fired home from close range.
The game was now quite even with both teams looking for a winner but the game finished level and went to penalties.
Unfortunately for Chirk they missed 2 of their opening 4 spot kicks with The Saints converting all their efforts and it was TNS who progressed into the next round.
A great showing from Chirk in front of a good crowd. Many good remarks received from the neutrals and I think we made a good impression with our professional approach to the game. Well done to all
Big shout out to our match mascots from Chirk youth Football club who proudly represented their club. Great to see the boys and girls with their senior counterparts prior to the game, Big Thanks to all that made it happen, long may it continue
