Chirk regain top spot after great win over previous leaders Llanfair United

CHIRK AAA 2 LLANFAIR UNITED 0

Chirk leapfrogged Llanfair to the top of the league with a brilliant performance against the previous league leaders.

After last weeks win at Cefn Albion, Chirk were in confident mood and today's win against a team who were unbeaten for 11 games was certainly a stake in the ground for their intentions.

There wasn't much to choose between the sides in the opening half hour with both sides weighing each other up and it was a touch of class from Chirk striker Jordan MacCarter which changed the game in favour of the home side with a brilliant strike after 40 minutes to put The Colliers ahead.

Chirk led 1-0 at the break and it was the home side who looked like increasingly their lead early in the second half with increased pressure and Dale Davies put them further ahead on 70 minutes.

Chirk, with man of the match Matty Williams outstanding in defence, snuffed out Llanfairs threat and the home side were unlucky not to increase their lead with minutes remaining when Davies again netted only to be controversially ruled offside.

A great performance from Chirk who now travel to Carno next week for their next challenge.
