CEFN ALBION 2 CHIRK AAA 1
Chirk went out of this years trophy after a competitve derby at The Rock, Rhosymedre.
Cefn started strongly and put Chirk on the back foot immediately. It was no surprise when midfielder Dion Gibbins put the home side ahead on just 4 minutes with a low shot past Callum Thurnham in the Chirk goal.
Chirk responded positively and on 15 minutes Louie Middlehurst equalised from close range. Chirk began to dominate and were guilty of missing a few chances to put them ahead.
The second period saw a more balanced game with both teams cancelling each other out until the 68th minute when Jordan Jones went unchallenged down the left to fire a low shot past Thurnham to put Cefn back in front.
Chirk tried to get back into the game but Cefn defended well and could well have increased their lead on the break with Chirk pressing for the equaliser.
However it took a brilliant last minute save from former Chirk keeper Josh Roberts to keep the Albion ahead. Nath Lavenders scooping header was destined for the top corner only for Roberts to make the save and send the home side through to the next round.
We wish Cefn Albion the best of luck in the next round.
Man of the match was Jake Ellison👏👏
A good sized crowd with an excellent following from Chirk. 👏👏
Chirk return to Ardal North league action on Wednesday evening when we make the short journey to Four Crosses. Chirk will be hoping Dale Davies recovers from ankle ligament damage and could also see the return of Ashton Williams, Jack Edwards & Adam Williams.
