JD Cymru Leagues (Cymru North)
CHIRK AAA 0 GRESFORD ATHLETIC 0
A hard fought draw with both teams having chances to win the game but both keepers in top form keeping the score line blank.
Chirk, without both Dale Davies & Jordan MacCarter, had early chances with Louie Middlehurst causing the Gresford back line plenty of problems with his aggressive style of play and it was Middlehurst who was extremely unlucky on 10 minutes when he saw his shot hit the post.
Rhys Williams in the Gresford goal kept out another effort on 20 minutes before Chirk keeper Mark Richards kept out a Sam Spridgeon effort.
Chirk introduced both Ed Baker & Rhys Edwards to the fray on the hour mark. Edwards, a young professional loan signing from TNS, looked sharp from the outset with his strong running giving Gresford all sorts of problems with his pace.
Chirk were dealt a massive blow on 65 minutes when centre back Matty Williams was shown a straight red for a foul on Gresford skipper Josh Griffiths.
Chirk regrouped and put up a resilient defence and even looked dangerous on the break with Edwards nearly scoring a winner in the closing minutes.
Chirk will be disappointed not to have claimed all 3 points but will be happy with their overall performance showing that they can indeed compete at this level.
Tuesday night Chirk travel to Saltney Ferry in a NEWFA Challenge Cup tie.
Tomorrow our Reserves entertain Hawarden Rangers in the FAW Reserve League looking to keep up their 100% start to the season and move back to top of the league.
