Chirk AAA 2 Prestatyn Town 1
A minutes silence prior to the game was impeccably observed by both players & supporters of both clubs in memory of former Chirk player Adam Bradshaw and friend of the club Melvin Jones who both passed recently. The club sends our condolences to both families and their friends. May they both rest in peace.
Chirk were dealt an early blow with central defender Matty Williams going off injured on 12 minutes with Caleb Davies replacing him.
Prestatyn went ahead on 18 minutes when Chirk failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Jack Holden who managed to squeeze his shot past Mark Richards in the Chirk goal. An early blow to The Colliers and Town looked dangerous on the break with both the impressive Tom Hilditch and his strike partner Danny Aitkins looking lively. Hilditch got clear and really should have squared for Atkins but decided to chance his luck from an acute angle but shot wide with Atkins unmarked in the middle. Chirks central defenders Jake Ellison and Caleb Davies both soon got the mark of the striking pair and restricted their activities with a sound defensive performance. Chirk did have a fair share of the play in the first period without creating too many chances. Jack Orbell and Jack Edwards were busy down the flanks and causing the away defence plenty of problems but there was no further score and the break saw the visitors go in with the single goal lead.
Chirk came out all guns blazing in the second period and it was Towns impressive keeper Josh Cooke the much busier and he made some good saves to keep Chirk at bay.
Chirk made a double substitution on the hour mark with Ed Baker and Steff Rogers replacing Jack Orbell and Ryan Davies respectively. And it was Baker who made a big impression on the game firstly setting up the equaliser for Rhys Edwards to slot home from close range on 75 minutes to draw The Colliers level and then scoring Chirks second goal on 78 minutes when he confidently shot home from a Ryan Williams corner to put the home side ahead. Late substitutes Louie Middlehurst and Lewis Clamp combined well late on only for Middlehursts powerful shot to graze the bar.
There was no further score and Chirk deservedly took the 3 points.
Next weekend Chirk travel to Ruthin Town on Friday evening with a 7.30pm kick off.
